I have the Blu-ray/DVD Writer listed above. At first it worked great at reading Blu-rays and was even able to write a couple of Blu-ray data disks. All of a sudden it quit recognizing Blu-rays. It will still read DVDs but now only ejects Blu-rays after a few seconds of attempting to read a Blu-ray disc.

I did some searches and found where others had similar issues and tried those attempted fixes. I am using it on a 27' iMac from late 2013 with OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.3. I was not able to get it to work on other MacBooks either. The manufacturer was no help either. The said contact Apple. Thanks in advance.

For the spin down you are correct uncheck the option and all drives stay awake now if we were running GNU/Linux it would simply be a matter of using hdparm and setting the spin down to off on the drives you wanted not to do it, not sure if that is available in the MacPorts repository/if it works the same under OSX using it so may be worth checking, personally I leave them all spinning. The first day, when I installed the LG, it was making a sort of 'access' type noise every few minutes, but then it automagically stopped doing that later that same day. It's like it was settling into it's new home, like a cat pawing up a pillow or something. I can't explain why, but it has never done it since that first few hours.
